– What happened? –

An over-the-moon Bethany Shriever (GBR) took her second major international win with victory in round 5 of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Zolder, Belgium on Saturday. After being held up in the pack, season leader Laura Smulders came back to the front at the end of the race to grab third place behind Judy Baauw (NED) who again took 2nd place after round 4 in Papendal. Laura's sister Merel Smulders just missed out on her first UCI BMX SX World Cup podium, finishing 4th.

In the Men’s racing, top riders David Graf (SUI), Sylvain André (FRA), Joris Daudet (FRA) as well as Dutch riders Joris Harmsen, Niek Kimmann and Twan van Gendt all made the final on Saturday. In the end Kimmann, who had claimed starting gate position number 1 on the inside all day, took a strong start and held on for the win as he had done on the same track in 2015 to claim the UCI World Championship title. André (2nd) and van Gendt (3rd) completed the podium.

With a bit of rain in the air on Sunday, round 6 was held in different conditions. Laura Smulders had a great start and took the red leaderplate home followed by Judy Baauw, who grabbed her third UCI BMX SX World Cup silver in a row. Russia's Natalia Afremova followed, 1.041 seconds behind the winner for third place.

Niek Kimmann put it together on day two for back-to-back UCI World Cup wins in Zolder, earning a 2000 euro bonus for his weekend’s double victory. He was followed in round 6 by Joris Daudet and Australia's Anthony Dean, back on the World Cup podium for the first time in three years. Smulders and Kimmann will take their UCI BMX Supercross World Cup leads into the final stopover in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, in September.

– Focus on Bethany Shriever –

911 is the career number that Bethany Shriever chose to have on her bike for the 2018 season. The 2017 UCI Junior World Champion from England just won her very first UCI BMX SX World Cup in Zolder, Belgium, at the young age of 18. Sponsored by BVC Bikes/MadisonUK/Extreme/Renthal, she is currently ranked number seven in the UCI BMX SX World Cup standings, with 380 points after six rounds. With her win in Belgium she puts her name alongside BMX World Cup-winning legends such as Caroline Buchanan, Shanaze Reade and Mariana Pajon. Over the moon with her recent win, the Brit will now focus on the UCI World Championships in Baku where she aims for her second rainbow jersey, this time in the Elite Women class.
