Passing of Dr George Ruijsch van Dugteren
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is saddened to learn of the death of Dr George Ruijsch van Dugteren, whose expertise, commitment and hard work in anti-doping made a very significant contribution to the sport of cycling and protection of clean athletes.
Chairman of the UCI Anti-Doping Commission from 2007 until 2013, Dr van Dugteren was a key player in the introduction of the Athlete Biological Passport, a major advancement in the methods of detection. Always energetic and enthusiastic about his work Dr van Dugteren was closely involved in the launch of the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation (CADF), the independent body which manages all anti-doping activities on behalf of the UCI, and became President of the CADF Foundation Board in 2013. He held that position until shortly before his death.
Dr van Dugteren will be sadly missed, and the UCI extends its sympathy to his family.
