BMX Freestyle

A short history

BMX Freestyle Park is the latest cycling discipline to be integrated into the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), joining the International Federation in 2015. The following year saw the first UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup organised as part of the FISE (International Festival of Extreme Sports) World Series. The spectacular discipline crowned its first UCI World Champions at the inaugural UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in 2017, the same year that the International Olympic Committee announced the inclusion of BMX Freestyle Park at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Competition format

The competition takes place on ramps with big transitions and large obstacles. Competitors perform figures throughout the course, with judges awarding points for difficulty, originality, style and execution. Each rider completes two one-minute runs, both of which count towards their final score. [YOUTUBE ID="7iH3MtdrEYo"]
