The UCI has decided to organise the first World Championships bringing several disciplines together in the same region and on the same dates, for what will be a major cycling festival.
This event will be organised every four years starting from the first edition in 2023.
Host cities that will make their facilities (velodromes, concert halls, multi-purpose venues) available for the manifestation, will at the same time become true capitals of world cycling. Moreover, they will be able to showcase their city centres by organising certain competitions, such as trials or BMX Freestyle Park, in urban settings.
The UCI Worlds for the following disciplines will feature on the event’s programme:
- Mountain Bike (Downhill and Cross-country Olympic)
- Mountain Bike Marathon
- BMX Supercross
- Urban Cycling (BMX Freestyle Park, Trials and Mountain Bike Cross-country Eliminator)
- Para-cycling Road
- Para-cycling Track
- Indoor Cycling (Cycle-ball and Artistic Cycling)
- Gran Fondo
The event will unite elite athletes and amateurs, notably through the Gran Fondo event, the BMX World Challenge and the mass participation events for road and mountain bike marathon.
It will moreover provide a unique platform to exhibit cycling’s different disciplines. As for the fans, they will have the opportunity to attend several UCI World Championships in the same geographic location and to therefore discover new disciplines at reduced cost.
First edition: 2023
