The UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator Word Cup powered by citymountainbike.com moved to Volterra (Italy) on Saturday, two weeks after the opening round on American soil, in Columbus. The mountaintop town in Tuscany hosted some intense racing which saw French athlete Lorenzo Serres go two better than his 3rd place in Columbus to take victory. Round 1 winner Jeroen Van Eck (the Netherlands) was third in Volterra, meaning the two athletes both sit on 45 points after the first two stopovers. Van Eck was the only athlete capable of breaking up the French domination in Volterra: apart from the Dutch rider, the final was an entirely French affair with Serres, Titouan Perrin Ganier (2nd) and Hugo Briatta, who had to settle for fourth after dropping his chain at the bottom of the final hill. The women’s competition is more clear-cut for the moment, with Norwegian Ingrid Sofie Bøe Jacobsen taking her second consecutive victory to strengthen her lead in the overall rankings on a maximum 60 points. Joining her on the podium in Volterra were Coline Clauzure (France) and Anna Oberparleiter (Italy). After a short break, the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup powered by citymountainbike.com will resume on July 28th in Graz, Austria.
