⚊ WHAT HAPPENED ? ⚊

It was a surprise Park win in Montpellier for UCI World Champion Justin Dowell (USA). He qualified down in 10th but got an excellent score on his last run, and then saw each of his rivals ultimately come up short of stealing his crown. Second place for Irek Rizaev (RUS) was also unexpected, but the podium was rounded out by the more familiar figure of Logan Martin (AUS). In the Women’s section, two of the stars of the discipline – USA’s Hannah Roberts and Perris Benegas – battled it out for victory, with Roberts now firmly established atop the series standing. Invincible Japanese rider Misaki Katagari – who won every leg of the UCI World Cup last year and the first one of this season – was again the best of the women’s Flatland field, while Czech outsider Dominik Nekolný top-scored in the Men’s ahead of 2018 UCI World Cup winner Matthias Dandois (FRA) and regular podium-finisher Moto Sasaki (JPN).

UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup powered by CityMountainbike.com

31 May | Villard-de-Lans (FRA)

⚊ WHAT HAPPENED ? ⚊

The second leg of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup, in Villars-de-Lans (France), came down to a sprint finish. Hugo Briatta (FRA) was up to the task, laying down the challenge to his opponents as early as the opening lap of the Men’s final. The Frenchman then maintained his lead throughout to edge out Felix Klausmann (GER), while UCI World Champion Titouan Perrin-Ganier (FRA) recovered from a poor start to finish third. It was a different story in the Women’s race, where Gaia Tormena (ITA) pulled clear early on and coasted home ahead of Magdalena Duran (ESP) and Irina Popova (UKR). This was the first UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup win for Tormena, at the tender age of 17!

⚊ WHAT HAPPENED ? ⚊

Amaury Pierron’s win on the windy slopes of Fort William (GBR) meant that French riders maintained their vice-like grip on this discipline of the UCI World Cup this season. While Maribor (Slovenia) winner Loïc Bruni (FRA) was back in the pack this weekend (8th), his compatriot Loris Vergier made it onto the third step of the podium behind Australia’s Troy Brosnan, whose second place moved him up to top spot in the World Cup. In the Women’s category, five-time UCI World Champion Rachel Atherton (GBR) took her first win of the season, making the most of the absence of her two main rivals Tahnée Seagrave (AUS) and Myriam Nicole (FRA), both of whom were out with injury. Atherton finished ahead of Tracey Hannah (AUS) and Nina Hoffmann (GER) to take the lead in the overall UCI World Cup standings.
