It was a Chinese hat trick for Parkhotel Valkenburg rider Lorena Wiebes (NED) who sprinted to victory in all three stages of the Tour of Chongming Island UCI Women’s WorldTour. The young Dutch rider dominated proceedings, claiming the jerseys for the General Classification, the Points Classification and, at just 20-years-old, the Youth Classification. Celebrating her first victories in the UCI Women’s WorldTour after second places at Driedaagse Brugge - de Panne and Gent Wevelgem in Flanders Field, Wiebes moves up to fifth in the UCI Women’s WorldTour standings and takes the lead in the youth standings.

⚊ WHAT HAPPENED ? ⚊

The Dutch crowds were spoilt at Rounds three and four of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup with their athletes taking all four victories on the two days of competition at the Sport Centre Papendal.  Home of the Dutch National BMX Team, the track was the theatre of exciting racing that saw Niek Kimmann take victory on both Saturday and Sunday in the Elite Men’s competitions. Meanwhile the French showed their depth of talent with three riders on the podium over the two days of racing with Jérémy Rencurel, Joris Daudet and UCI World Champion Sylvain André. In the women’s racing, Judy Baauw, winner in Round 3, had to be satisfied with fifth the following day in a final that was won by her Dutch teammate and UCI World Champion Laura Smulders. On both days, American Alise Willoughby took second behind the Dutch.

UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup - Corridonia

9 - 12 May

⚊ WHAT HAPPENED ? ⚊

The first of three rounds of the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup saw the return to the podium of established athletes but was also marked by the presence of new young para-cyclists who will be giving their older counterparts a run for their money: not least independent Dutch athlete Mitch Valize who finished second in the MH5 time trial – behind Italy’s Alessandro Zanardi - and road race to take the UCI World Cup lead. Impressive performance too from Australia’s Paige Greco who, with two victories in Corridonia, leads the WC3 ranking. Seventeen nations were represented on the podium over the weekend. With 10 gold medals, the Netherlands finished the weekend at the top of the medals table in front of Italy and the USA.
