Five years on from winning the inaugural La Course by Le Tour de France, Dutch rider Marianne Vos (CCC – Liv) tasted glory once more in the ASO-organised event. In doing so, Vos ended compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten’s (Mitchelton Scott) hopes of taking the title for the third year in a row, following her 2017 and 2018 wins. Held on an undulating course – on the same day as the men’s Tour de France time trial – the 121-kilometre race was full of incident and suspense, right through to the finish. Australia’s Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) seemed set for victory with just a few hundred metres to go but reckoned without the charging Vos, who caught up with her in the closing stretch and took the line by three seconds from her closest pursuers, Canada’s Leah Kirchmann (Team Sunweb) and Denmark’s Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (Bigla).
