With a field of close to 100 Pro riders plus a quality field of female BMX Park riders the start of the 2017 UCI BMX Freestyle Park season was a good one down in Montpellier, France this past weekend. Five days of beautiful weather and a crowd of 380.000 people contributed to an exciting competition on a newly built BMX Park on The Lez river.
Hannah Roberts (USA) continued where she left off in 2016 after winning the first UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup Title, but she sure has some strong competition breathing down her neck. The 15 year old rider from Michigan did flairs, tailwhips, and 360-s to grab the first World Cup win of the season with Nikita Ducarroz (USA) in second and Macarena Pérez from Santiago Chile in 3rd.
Traditionally the BMX Park Pro Finals is the highlight at the Fise World Series and takes place as the last event in Montpellier. The crowd got behind the riders as the top 12 delivered fantastic riding. Over the winter months 2016 UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup champ Logan Martin has put in his homework but the pressure was on for a perfect second run after the competition had impressed the judges with two great showings already. Martin didn't disappoint and stuck his tricks like a well oiled machine to grab the win in front of Russian Kostya Andreev (2nd) and Daniel Dhers (VEN) on place 3.
