Six para-cycling gold medals were won on Friday, day eight of the UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.
In the Men’s C2 road race, France’s Alexandre Léauté battled with Great Britain’s Matthew Robertson – the two breaking away on lap three of 10 - before shifting into gear to defend his UCI world title. Léauté attacked on the climb in the last lap to win by 45 seconds. Belgium’s Ewoud Vromant, who won gold in the time trial this week, won the sprint for bronze.
Spain’s Ricardo Ten Argiles won his second gold of the Championships in Zurich, adding the Men’s C1 road race to his time trial victory earlier in the week. He was pushed all the way by Poland’s Zbigniew Maciejewski. Germany’s Pierre Senska won bronze.
The USA’s Dennis Connors defended his title in the Men’s T2 road race, followed by Germany’s Maximilian Jäger, two seconds behind, and Austria’s Wolfgang Steinbichler a further second back. Czechia’s Jindřich Mašín, who had pulled away with two laps to go, faded to fourth.
Nathan Clement added road race gold to his time trial success in the Men’s T1 category, while the Netherlands’ Marieke van Soest dominated the Women’s T1 road race, winning by more than 11 minutes.
Denmark’s Emma Lund defended her title in the Women’s T2 road race ahead of Switzerland’s time trial gold medallist Celine van Till.

B – Tandem: for visually impaired athletes with sighted pilot
H – Handcycle
Groups C (1-5), T (1-2) and H (1-5) are divided into different sport classes, with the lower the number indicating a higher level of impairment.
