Great Britain’s Cat Ferguson delivered an impressive performance to win the Women Junior individual time trial (ITT) on Tuesday, the fourth day of competition at the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships, in Zurich (Switzerland).
Her victory confirms her multi-disciplinary talents that have also seen her win medals at UCI World Championships for track and cyclo-cross.
Crowned in two events (omnium and team pursuit) last month at the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Luoyang, China, Ferguson has also won three silver medals at UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships (Women Junior and mixed team relay in 2024 and mixed team relay in 2023).
On the road, she won silver in the Women Junior road race at last year’s UCI Cycling World Championships held in Glasgow and across Scotland (Great Britain). A key figure in the 2024 UCI Nations’ Cup Women Junior, she is currently a stagiaire with UCI Women's WorldTeam Movistar Team.
On Tuesday, she powered to victory with a time of 23’49’’ over the 18.8km course on the shores of Lake Zurich, going back and forth from Sechseläutenplatz. Slovakia’s Viktória Chladoňová (bronze medallist behind Ferguson in this year’s UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships) trailed by 34’’ with Imogen Wolff delivering another medal, bronze, for Team GB.
“It’s incredible,” Ferguson said as she became the fourth British UCI Women Junior ITT World Champion after finishing 10th last year.
“The disappointment that I’ve had before makes this jersey even more special,” she explained. “And to put the ride in as well, the process that went into this, it’s incredible. I’ve got so many people to thank. I don’t have the words right now but I’m incredibly grateful to them all.”
Two brilliant rides, two brilliant medals 🥇🥉
