Annika Langvad started mountain biking in 2008 and hasn’t stopped since. Three-time UCI World Champion in the cross-country Marathon, the Danish athlete is also among the world’s best cross-country Olympic riders and already has two UCI Mountain Bike World Cup wins in her pocket this year.
While injury prevented her from competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games, 2016 is looking more positive. The battle for the XCO Women’s title will be fierce in Rio, and we look forward to it! Let’s get to know her.
I AM Name: Annika Langvad Age: 32 Nickname: Ever since I started cycling, I haven’t had any nicknames. But in previous phases of my life I was known as: Pande, Kassen or Jokeren. Discipline: Mountain bike XCO and XCM Main success: 3x XCM World Champion and several World Cup podiums in XCO
I LIKE An actor/actress: Edward Norton A TV series: Modern Family A movie: Too many to just pick one A song: Whomadewho - Inside World. Played out very loud, when driving car and singing along An artist: Rihanna A book: I can’t remember when I last finished a book. I always end up buying paperbacks at the airport thinking, “ok, so this one, I will get through…” A colour: At the moment I have a thing for pastel green. A meal: Any well cooked three course meal including a proper steak, a good salad, red wine, goat cheese and chocolate A country: Denmark. All seasons except winter! A race: UCI World Cup in Dalby Forest, UK, where I took my first World Cup podium in 2011 Another cyclist: Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. She strikes me as reflective on her future, despite her young age. Another sport: Nordic Skiing. I would love to do that kind of exercise in the winter, but Danish winter is just too rainy for that. A sport person: Usain Bolt. His speed is just fascinating. 3 things that you would take with you on a desert island: Chocolate, coffee and red wine. So I at least could enjoy whatever remaining time I have left. A person who inspires you: Everyone has a story that says a lot about who they are and why they’ve ended up there and I find them all inspiring! A motto: Hmm, never really worked mottos A dream: That the pace and the greed of the world would slow down. It’s just not healthy.
Something people don’t know about you? I have a habit of using my nose to smell things in order to get an impression of them.
