Several trainees from the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Aigle, Switzerland, travelled home last week to compete in their respective national road championships. Result: seven national titles. Three of the athletes made a clean sweep of medals, winning both their national time trial and road race.
“These athletes are part of the UCI WCC’s road group training in Aigle, Switzerland,” explains UCI High Performance Manager Belinda Tarling. “While one of our aims is to provide them with racing experience in Europe, their national championships are an important part of their programme.
“The honour of wearing a National Champion’s jersey is incomparable, and we are proud to have our athletes distinguishing themselves in their respective countries.”
She added that the trainees’ victories were a reflection of the progress they have made while training at the UCI World Cycling Centre. By helping the athletes reach such a high standard, the UCI WCC is also raising the level of cycling in their countries.
