Three rainbow jerseys for individual titles were awarded on Friday at the UCI Trials World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy. Spain took two titles, with Germany taking the third.
Nina Reichenbach of Germany continued her unbeaten streak in the women's competition, adding her first world title to the four consecutive World Cup victories she has attained this season. Reichenbach achieved a low score of 21 points in the final, finishing ten points ahead of Janine Jungfels of Australia. Perrine Devahive of Belgium won the bronze medal with 36 points.
In the Junior Men's 20" final, Spain took their first title of the Championships, with Eloi Palau finishing with eight points. Palau was tied with favourite Nicolas Vallée of France, but won the world title by finishing higher in the semi-finals. Samuel Hlavaty of Slovakia won the bronze medal with 17 points.
In the Elite Men's 20", Spain swept the medals, led by defending champion Abel Mustieles with eight points. This is Mustieles' fifth title in six years. Mustieles finished one point in front of his perennial rival, Benito Ros. Ion Areitio was a distant third, at 21 points.
The 2016 UCI Trials World Championships conclude on Saturday, with the 26" competitions for Junior and Elite Men.
