SUSTAINABILITY

Cycling represents one of the planet's great hopes to shift society towards lower or zero-carbon methods of transport and address some of the greatest threats to humanity: climate change, air pollution and premature death from inactivity.

As part of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, the UCI is committed to reducing the impact of its operations on the environment and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve significant changes within the sport.  By taking action to embed sustainability into the sport, the cycling family will improve and contribute to the state of public health, the preservation of natural resources, the promotion of social justice, and the wellbeing of society and the economy.

Make cycling one of the world's most sustainable sports and promote the bicycle as a key transport mode in combating climate change, improving population health and building a more sustainable future for all.

This document sets out recommendations for all cycling stakeholders with practical advice and case studies, as well as detailed checklists enabling sporting organisations worldwide to integrate sustainable practices into their daily operations.

This document sets out a framework for the UCI’s sustainability strategy to develop environmental and social objectives.

To support this vision, the UCI’s sustainability strategy has been founded on four pillars to maximise positive impact and minimise negative impact in the social, economic, and environmental spheres. Each of these pillars includes specific internal targets to be delivered by the UCI, to lead the sport in all its forms towards a sustainable future.
