The Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup returned to Europe for Round 3 in Berlin, Germany, which will be the venue for the 2020 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Conceived as part of Berlin's bid for the 2000 Olympic Games, the velodrome was opened in 1997 and has since hosted the 1997 and 2017 European Track Cycling Championships, the 1998 UCI Track Cycling World Cup and the 1999 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Ahead of the 2017 European Championships, the track was rebuilt, with the surface completely relaid with new Siberian spruce.A total of 18 countries and UCI trade teams shared the medals in Berlin, with eight winning gold, illustrating the depth of the field. Australia led the standings with four gold and two silver, followed by Great Britain with three gold and two silver, and host Germany (1G/3S/2B). Four riders won two gold medals, three of them women from Great Britain - Katie Archibald (team pursuit/Omnium), Laura Kenny (team pursuit/Madison) and Emily Nelson (team pursuit/Madison). The only man to win multiple gold medals was Australia's Sam Welsford, in the team pursuit and Omnium.
