… Leogang UCI Mountain Bike World Cup
Leogang is Round 4 of the Downhill UCI World Cup, and closes out the first half of the season, one week after Fort William, Scotland. This is the sixth time the World Cup has come to Leogang, which also hosted the UCI World Championships in 2012.
Held in the Leogang Bike Park, this course begins in the open with long, fast groomed trail sections, before dropping into the forest in the lower half, with roots and rocks. It was the site of a legendary run last year by Aaron Gwin, who broke his chain two pedal strokes into his ride, and then managed to coast all the way to finish and set the winning time. It was a remarkable run that had everyone shaking their heads in awe.
Rachel Atherton (GBR) leads the women's standings going into Leogang, and Aaron Gwin (USA) the men's.
Greg Minnaar holds the record for Men's UCI World Cup downhill victories, at 19 after his win in Round 3 at Fort William, Scotland, this year. The 34 year is from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and first made his mark on the gravity world with a UCI World Cup win in 2001, at the age of 19. He also won the overall UCI World Cup that same year, his first of three overall titles, to go with his three UCI World Championship titles.
