The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano headed to Mont-Ste-Anne, Canada on August 5-6, for Round 6 of the downhill (DHI) and Round 5 of the Olympic cross-country (XCO). Mont-Ste-Anne is the longest continuously running UCI World Cup site, and will host the UCI World Championships for a record third time in 2019.
Competition opened on Saturday with the downhill. In Elite women, Tahnée Seagrave (Transition Bikes/FMD Factory Racing) won her second race of the year ahead of UCI World Cup leader Myriam Nicole (Commencal/Vallnord). The points spread between first and third is only 146 points going into the final round at Val di Sole, Italy.
The final 25 men went down in torrential rain, and no one could match time of earlier runner Dean Lucas (Intense Factory Racing) until the final rider, Aaron Gwin (The YT Mob), put in an epic performance to take his second win of the season. UCI World Cup leader Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) continues to lead the overall standings, but by a slim 33 points ahead of Gwin, with Troy Brosnan (Canyon Factory Racing DH) third, a further 44 points back. Val di Sole will decide the overall champion.
The XCO on Sunday saw both the men's and women's overall leaders win, and each clinched the overall titles for their respective categories in the process. Yana Belomoina (CST Sandd American Eagle MTB Racing Team) took her third win of the season in Elite women, while in the men, Olympic and UCI World Champion Nino Schurter (Scott-SRAM MTB Racing Team) extended his unbeaten streak to five wins - a record for one season - and the 25th of his career.

Val di Sole, ITA, DHI World Cup #7 / XCO #6 > August 26-27
French cross-country rider Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Canyon Factory Racing XC) proved that she is returning to top form with a second place finish at Mont-Ste-Anne, Canada, in Round 5 of the UCI World Cup. Ferrand-Prévot was the UCI Junior World Champion in 2009 and 2010 and followed that up by winning the Under-23 World Cup overall title in 2011. She developed her skills over the next few years and put together an unprecedented streak over 2014 and 2015, when she simultaneously held the Elite world titles for road, cyclo-cross and mountain bike XCO. Late in 2015 she suffered a training injury which impacted most of her 2016 season.
