The UCI Women’s WorldTour had a week off, but two UCI-ranked races over the weekend provided plenty of opportunities for teams to have a hit out ahead of the Aviva Women’s Tour in Great Britain.

Ashleigh Moolman (Cervélo-Bigla Pro Cycling) soloed to victory on the final stage of the two-day, three stage Auensteiner – Radsporttage to win the race overall. The South African Champion finished second on the first two stages, with Lisa Brennauer (Canyon SRAM Racing) winning the opening stage road race and Annemiek van Vleuten (Orica-AIS) winning the individual time trial.

In Belgium, Jolien d’Hoore (Wiggle High5) was a popular winner on home soil at the SPAR Flanders Diamond Tour. The Belgian Champion lined up as two-time defending champion and delivered in the field sprint to take her third straight win in Nijlen.

Round ten of the UCI Women’s WorldTour is the Aviva Women’s Tour. The five-day stage race is the first UCI Women’s WorldTour race in Great Britain and the third stage race of the inaugural series.

The race begins on June 15 in Southfold on the Suffolk coast. While the first stage should suit the sprinters, the subsequent four stages are more open and should provide excitement and suspense until the race’s conclusion in Kettering on June 19.

In total, the race will cover 621.1 kilometres with 7,391 metres of climbing. The route, which is more challenging compared to the previous two years due to increased climbing, has been designed to pass by as many schools and through as many major population areas as possible.

The Aviva Women’s Tour began in 2014. Marianne Vos (Rabo Liv Women Cycling) won the inaugural event while Lisa Brennauer (then Velocio-SRAM, now Canyon SRAM Racing) emerged victorious in year two.

UCI World Champion Lizzie Armitstead (27) will line up for the Aviva Women’s Tour on Wednesday as a pre-race favourite on home soil. The Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team rider has already clocked up numerous wins in her rainbow jersey this season. A silver medalist at the London 2012 Olympics, she means to go one place better at Rio 2016.
