The UCI Women's WorldTour Chronicle

There was no UCI Women’s WorldTour race this week. Instead much of the women’s peloton lined up for their National Road Championships.

Key winners include:

Giro d'Italia Internazionale Femminile - 01-10.07.2016

Giro d'Italia Internazionale Femminile 2015 :

1. Anna van der Breggen (NED) 2. Mara Abbott (USA) 3. Megan Guarnier (USA)

Also known as the Giro Rosa, this ten-day Italian stage race is the only women’s Grand Tour.

The 27th edition of the Giro opens with an evening prologue on July 1st in Gaiarine, near Treviso. The race ends 10 days and 857.7km later, in Verbania.

Three previous Giro Rosa winners are expected to return to Italy this year: Anna van der Breggen (2015), Mara Abbott (2013, 2010) and Claudia Lichtenberg (2009). Last year, Megan Guarnier (Boels Dolmans Cycling Team) wore the maglia rosa for six days before losing it to Van der Breggen (Rabo Liv Women Cycling Team) on the penultimate time trial stage.

Trixi Worrack (34) is a key rider for CANYON SRAM Racing, regularly riding as team captain or team leader. Since the UCI reintroduced the team time trial at the UCI World Championships in 2012, the German has been part of every team time trial gold medal ride – with Specialzied-lululemon in 2012-2014 and Velocio – SRAM last year.
