Round 12 of the UCI Women’s WorldTour was held in Paris on Sunday. Wiggle High5’s Chloe Hosking sprinted to victory on the Champs Elysées to become the first Australian winner of La Course by Le Tour de France. Hosking won by nearly a bike length over Finnish Champion Lotta Lepistö (Cervélo-Bigla Pro Cycling) and 2014 La Course winner Marianne Vos (Rabo Liv Women Cycling Team).
The race stayed together for the opening two laps of the 13-lap, 89-kilometre race. The first and longest breakaway of the day came just before the start of lap three when Lucinda Brand (Rabo Liv Women Cycling Team) attacked and Olga Zabelinskaya (BePink), Chantal Blaak (Boels Dolmans Cycling Team) and British Champion Hannah Barnes (Canyon SRAM Racing) followed. Although the quartet only managed to stay away for two laps, their escape inspired countless attacks in the nine laps that followed their catch.
Three major crashes and several smaller ones impacted the race with at least two riders leaving for hospital by ambulance. With two significant crashes coming in the final 10-kilometres, Hosking won from a reduced bunch.

The UCI Women’s WorldTour travels to London next weekend for another city centre circuit race, the Prudential RideLondon Classique. The women’s peloton will race 12 laps of a 5.5-kilometre circuit that begins on The Mall in St James Park and takes in several well-known London sights, including Big Ben.
Race organisers are offering a 100,000 Euro prize purse at the Prudential RideLondon Classique, which makes round 13 of the UCI Women’s WorldTour the world’s richest one day women’s race. The prize money matches the money offered at the one day men’s race that takes place the following day.
The Prudential RideLondon Classique replaces the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix, a women’s criterium race that was held from 2013-2015.
La Course runner-up Lotta Lepistö describes herself as an “explosive sprinter and stage hunter.” The Finnish Champion turned professional with Bigla Pro Cycling Team in 2014 and is in her third season with the Swiss outfit. Lepistö scored her team’s first UCI Women’s WorldTour win when she sprinted to victory on the final stage of the Aviva Womens Tour (GBR) in June.
