The opening leg of the 2015 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, which was held in April in Manchester (GBR), has been voted best event of the series.
The British event overcame strong competition from Papendal (the Netherlands), Engelholm (Sweden), 2014 winner Santiago del Estero (Argentina) and Rock Hill, South Carolina (USA).
Manchester was favoured as best event by riders, the UCI BMX Commission, sponsors, the UCI, GSX Events and media representatives on the basis of five criteria: event promotion, organisation, the race and track, venue and atmosphere.
The only indoor BMX Supercross facility in the world hosted the inaugural round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup for the third time. The third straight of the track was completely rebuilt for the occasion and challenged the riders to the max. Fans in British Cycling’s National Cycling Centre were delighted by the victory for the third year in a row of Great Britain’s own 2013 UCI World Champion Liam Phillips, who lives and trains in Manchester.
The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup will return to Manchester for a fourth consecutive year in 2016, from April 9 to 10, and will be one of the last qualifying events for Rio 2016.
The best event winners will receive their trophy in January during a seminar for organisers of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.
