UCI Junior Track Cycling Worlds conclude with Madison races

The 2017 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships concluded on Sunday in Montichiari, Italy, with four titles awarded, all to the most dominant nations of the Championships. Russia took their fifth title, Italy and France each took their fourth and Denmark their third. In the men's 1000m time trial, Pavel Perchuk of Russia won with a time of 1:01.768 seconds, finishing 0.635 seconds ahead of Carle Hinze of Germany. Jackson Ogle of New Zealand took the bronze medal, a further 0.253 seconds in arrears. The women's keirin saw Mathilde Gros of France win her third title of these Championships, sweeping the women's sprint events and setting a world record. Steffie van der Peet of the Netherlands took silver and Kim Hyesu won the bronze, the first medal of the Championships for Korea. The UCI World Championships concluded with the Madison races for women and men. The Madison was introduced as a demonstration event for women last year. At this year's competition, host nation Italy dominated the women's race, with the team of Letizia Paternoster and Chiara Consonni one of two teams to take two laps on the field, plus winning points in every intermediate sprint for a total of 70 points. Russia also took two laps to win the silver medal with 55 points, while France won the bronze medal with 39 points. In the men's Madison, the Danish team of Mathias Larsen and Julius Johansen were untouchable, lapping the field and scoring points in seven intermediate sprints for 43 points. Russia finished second with 25 points, just two points in front of Australia.
