UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano: Atherton & Gwin Top Qualifying in Leogang

The Downhill Series leaders at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano padded their leads in the overall standings after qualifying, when both Rachel Atherton (GT Factory) and Aaron Gwin (Specialized) took the top spots on Saturday at Round 3 in Leogang, Austria.

Despite worries about rain and newly cut sections of the course, neither was a factor in racing.

Atherton qualified with a time of four minutes and 6.254 seconds, nearly six seconds ahead of second place Emmeline Ragot (MS Mondraker), the winner of Round 1. Tahnee Seagrave (FMD Racing) was third at 8.435 seconds.

In men's qualifying, the results were much closer, with Gwin finishing with a time of three minutes and 35.358 seconds, 1.432 seconds ahead of Connor Fearon (Kona Factory), with Remi Thirion (Commencal/Vallnord) at 2.901 seconds. World champion Gee atherton was fourth, at 3.423 seconds.

In Junior men's qualifying, Andrew Crimmins (Kona Factory) was the top qualifier.
