The statutory deadline for the submission of nominations to the UCI Presidency and UCI Management Committee expired on 23 June 2021. Following receipt of all applications, the candidates’ files were transferred to the UCI Ethics Commission for verification of the candidates’ eligibility according to articles 52 and 53 of the UCI Constitution. After examination, the Commission confirmed that all candidates were eligible. All the application files will therefore soon be transferred to the Voting Delegates of each Continental Confederation.
With regards to the Presidency, only David Lappartient, the current UCI President, submitted his candidacy. Pursuant to article 40, paragraph 3 of the UCI Constitution, his election for a second four-year term will be confirmed without being put to vote.
The candidates for the UCI Management Committee were elected by their respective Continental Confederations. The UCI is pleased to note the presence of four female candidates, representing three Continental Confederations. This is a first and follows the statutory amendments introduced by the UCI in 2019 with the aim of promoting the presence of women within executive bodies of the UCI, Continental Confederations and National Federations.
At the UCI Congress in Leuven (Belgium) on 24 September, one member will be elected for each of the following four Continental Confederations: Africa, America, Asia and Oceania. For Europe, seven members, including at least two representatives of each gender, will be elected.
As a reminder, the UCI Management Committee is made up of a President, 11 members elected by the UCI Congress, the five Continental Confederation Presidents as well as the President of the UCI Athletes’ Commission.
