The third and final round of the 2026 UCI Trials World Cup saw victories for Alba Riera (ESP), Alejandro Montalvo (ESP) and Charlie Rolls (GBR) in the Women Elite, Men Elite 20” and Men Elite 26” competitions, respectively. All three winners in Claußnitz, Germany, on Sunday 23 August also secured the overall 2026 UCI Trials World Cup titles.
Women: first overall title for Riera
Spain’s Alba Riera finished off a faultless season by taking her third UCI Trials World Cup win of the three-round season.
She produced a stunning performance on Sunday, finishing on 260 points to take victory by 10 points from Vera Barón, also of Spain. The 18-year-old laid the foundations for the win in the first four sections, scoring a maximum 240 points. With a 40-point lead over Barón going into the final section, Riera’s 20-point effort was sufficient to beat her countrywoman, who has won the overall UCI Trials World Cup title five times including the last four years.
Behind the leading pair, Andrea Pérez Zamora secured third on the day and overall.
Riera had already dominated rounds one and two in Dole (France) and Rzeszów (Poland), cementing her position as one of trials’ brightest young stars. In Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) in 2024, she was crowned Women Elite UCI World Champion at the age of just 16, beating Barón by 10 points. She successfully defended the rainbow jersey at the 2025 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), again defeating Barón in a tense final. Runner-up in the 2025 UCI Trials World Cup, winning one round along the way, the Spanish teenager is also 2026 UEC European Champion.
Men Elite 20”: fifth crown for Montalvo
Alejandro Montalvo capped off the 2026 UCI Trials World Cup with victory in the third round, securing the Men Elite 20” overall title after an earlier battle with Robin Berchiatti (FRA).
Twenty-one-year-old Berchiatti had won the opening two events, but an injury picked up at the recent UEC European Championships meant he couldn’t compete in Claußnitz. It left the door open for Montalvo, which he rode through in style with a near-perfect 280 points to reclaim the top step of the podium and take the overall UCI World Cup title, following his domination of the 2025 series when he won every round. Montalvo also won the overall title in 2018, 2021 and 2023, so he now has five UCI Trials World Cup wins to sit alongside his three individual titles of UCI World Champion.
This season, his domination was threatened by Berchiatti, who was in the driving seat after his victory in the opening round in Dole, and who repeated his success in Rzeszów. Both times, Montalvo finished second, with fellow Spaniard Borja Conejos completing the podium. The injured Frenchman finally finished the UCI World Cup season in fifth place behind Montalvo, Conejos, Niilo Stenvall (FIN) and Guillaume Camus (FRA).
Men Elite 26”: Rolls completes hat-trick
The Men Elite 26” competition proved an exhilarating affair with Great Britain’s Charlie Rolls retaining his overall title with victory in Claußnitz. The 25-year-old showed great composure and consistency as his nearest rivals dropped away. Rolls’ five-section total of 260 points was 60 points clear of Spain’s Daniel Barón and 70 points ahead of another Spaniard, Martí Vayreda.
Rolls and fellow Briton Oliver Weightman held the joint lead on 100 points after the first two sections. However, Weightman’s chances of a podium spot were dashed on his fourth section when he registered no points. By then, Rolls sat in first place, 20 points ahead of Barón. That left Barón needing a perfect fifth and final run. It didn’t happen, although his 20 points proved enough for second on the day.
Rolls once again delivered when it mattered. After being beaten in the opening round in Dole by Spain’s Julen Sáenz de Ormijana, the British rider responded strongly in Rzeszów, winning round two and moving into the overall lead, which he held onto in style in Germany. He is now a three-time UCI Trials World Cup winner. Sáenz de Ormijana finished second overall with Barón in third.
After competing successfully on 20” bikes, Rolls switched to 26” competition in 2024 and immediately made an impact, winning the UCI Trials World Cup title in his first season, then successfully defending the overall in 2025 and now 2026. Last year her was crowned Men Elite 26” UCI World Champion.
“I’m so happy to come away with the win,” Rolls said after the third round. “I started the season slowly, but now I feel ready to go. I can’t believe I’ve won three [UCI Trials World Cup titles] in a row. I wouldn’t have believed that when stepping up to 26” that I’d win straight away.
“It’s great to keep on winning. And having fun. The crowd was amazing today; a great atmosphere. Everyone was pumped up and the other riders rode insanely, too.”
The athletes will now turn their attention to the 2026 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, which include trials, taking place 3-7 November in Riyadh.
