Seven coaches from China are in Aigle, Switzerland, this week to obtain the UCI Level 1 and 2 coaching certificate.
The six men and one woman work as coaches in different regions of China and have come together to the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC) for the two-week course, which also includes Level 1 mechanics instruction.
The group includes a coach of teenagers, Zhe Sun, coach of UCI Continental team Ningxia Sports Lottery Livall Gusto, former pro rider Li Fuyu and a current pro rider Liu Hao. They are in Switzerland with an interpreter to ensure they get the maximum benefit from the UCI WCC’s professional coaching and mechanics staff.
Topics covered during the two weeks include training with power, athlete monitoring, nutrition, prescribing training, anti-doping, coaching principles and safety. As well as classroom sessions, the coaches gained practical experience on the track, road and off-road. Three full days were devoted to mechanics training.
The two-week course finishes with a written test to obtain the UCI Certificate.
