The Netherlands’ Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton Scott) has won the Italian stage race for the second year running. The time trial UCI World Champion demonstrated her incredible versatility with her two stage wins: she was unstoppable on the queen stage five, attacking on the final climb up the Passo Fraele to reach Lago di Cancano almost three minutes ahead of the chasing group, then extended her overall lead the next day with a comfortable win in the uphill 12.1km time trial. Also winner of the points and mountain classifications, van Vleuten was joined on the overall podium in Udine on Sunday by fellow Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans CyclingTeam) and fellow Mitchelton Scott team-member Amanda Spratt (Australia).
