WHAT HAPPENED
The Sir Chris Hoy velodrome was the stage of much excitement during the second round of the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup. Just one week after the season-opener in Minsk, several athletes confirmed their form by claiming consecutive World Cup victories: Hong Kong’s Lee Wai Sze in the Women’s sprint, the Netherlands’ Harrie Lavreysen in the Men’s sprint, the Netherlands in the Men’s team sprint, Russians Ekaterina Rogovaya and Daria Shmeleva in the Women’s team sprint and Denmark in the Men’s team pursuit. The Netherlands and France came away with the most gold medals (three each), while France and Great Britain had the highest total number of medals, with six each.
In addition to the UCI World Cup racing, para-cyclists competed in the Glasgow Para-cycling International events at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome on Friday as they continue their build-up for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

WHAT HAPPENED
The third edition of this multi-discipline UCI World Championships saw the crowning of the first-ever UCI World Champions for BMX Freestyle Flatland: the Czech Republic’s Dominik Nekolny and Austrian Irina Sadovnik. Meanwhile in the BMX Freestyle Park competition, the USA’s Hannah Roberts claimed back the rainbow jersey she had won in 2017 before losing it last year to fellow American Perris Benegas, 8th this year. Australian Brandon Loupos was victorious in the men’s competition.
However, it was the trials competitions that decided the overall medals table for the Urban Worlds. With three gold medals - in the Men Elite 20” (Dominik Oswald), Women Elite (Nina Reichenbach) and Junior 26” (Oliver Widmann) - Germany celebrated the most victories in Chengdu. They were followed by Spain, winners of the rainbow jersey in the teams event and the Men Elite 26”, which saw a surprise win go to Sergi Llongueras.
