Reigning cycle-ball UCI World Champions Höchst (Patrick Schnetzer/Markus Bröll) did not disappoint at the opening round of the 2019 UCI Cycle-ball World Cup in Ailingen, Germany. In a repeat of the 2018 UCI World Championships final, the Austrian duo beat Germany’s Stein (Bernd and Gerhard Mlady) by two points (5-3). Switzerland’s Pfungen beat Dornbirn (Austria) in the play-off for third place in Ailingen.

Four days out from the Ronde van Vlaanderen – Tour des Flandres, Mathieu van der Poel laid his cards on the table. The Corendon - Circus rider’s victory at Dwars door Vlaanderen - A Travers la Flandre left nobody in any doubt that he would be a major contender in Oudenaarde, Belgium the following Sunday. Part of a five-man breakaway at the Dwars door Vlaanderen, the Dutch national champion made the final sprint look easy, taking the win ahead of Anthony Turgis (Direct Energie) and Bob Jungels (Deceuninck-Quick-Step)
