Despite a Yates family attack on the 7th and last stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, the two Mitchelton Scott riders Simon and Adam were reeled in, preventing Adam Yates from overtaking Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana Pro Team) in the General Classification. Lopez claimed overall victory by a narrow 14 seconds.

The Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne (BEL) was a Dutch affair with wins for Dylan Groenewegen – the fifth victory of the season for the Team Jumbo-Visma rider – and Kirsten Wild (WNT-Rotor Pro Cycling Team). The reigning UCI World Champion in the Madison and Omnium made the transition from track to road look easy, taking her victory just four days after second place in the Omnium at the Six-Day Manchester Track meet (GBR).

Between them, the top two finishers of the E3 BinckBank Classic in Belgium have six titles of Elite UCI World Champion…. in cyclo-cross. After animating the final stages of the race, Czech rider Zdenek Stybar, cyclo-cross UCI World Champion in 2010, 2011 and 2014, took Deceuninck-Quick-Step’s 20th victory of the season, winning the sprint over Wout van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma), cyclo-cross UCI World Champion in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Next weekend’s Ronde van Vlaanderen – Tour des Flandres promises to be a nail-biter.
