November 1st-3rd | Minsk, Belarus
The 2019-2020 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup is underway, and already a world record has been broken… twice. Italian Filippo Ganna recorded a time of 4:04.252 in individual pursuit qualifying on Sunday morning to beat the mark set by Ashton Lambie (USA) in September. He then smashed his new record by clocking 4:02.647 in the final against Great Britain’s John Archibald (GBR).
Ganna’s victory marked his country’s only gold medal in Minsk, Italy finishing fifth in the medal standings. With five golds and a silver, the Netherlands topped the medals table ahead of the United States (three gold and three bronze) and Great Britain (two gold, two silver and a bronze).
The next round of the UCI World Cup will take place in Glasgow (GBR) next weekend (November 8-11).
Please see the Results page for detailed podiums of the Minsk event.
October 31st - November 3rd | Chendgdu, China
With her typically complex runs that were as controlled as they were stylish, the unstoppable Japanese Misaki Katigiri took her third win out of three rounds in Chengdu to claim the overall UCI BMX Freestyle Flatland World Cup. In the Men’s Flatland competition, Matthias Dandois takes the overall UCI World Cup win for the second consecutive year despite failing to win any of the three rounds: the Frenchman finished second in Chengdu, as he did in Hiroshima (Japan) and Montpellier (France). It was Japan’s Moto Sasaki who was victorious in Chengdu, moving into third place overall behind second-placed Dominik Nekolny (CZE), who was in the lead before the final Chinese stopover.
In BMX Freestyle Park, the USA’s Hannah Roberts (2017 UCI World Champion) and reigning UCI World Champion Perris Benegas continue to dominate! While Roberts won her third UCI World Cup round of the season in Chengdu to take the overall title, Benegas pushed her every inch of the way and with her three podiums, including 2nd in Chengdu, claims 2nd overall. Seventeen-year-old Rim Nakamura (JAP) took his first-ever UCI World Cup win in Chengdu and finishes the season at the top of the overall classification, pushing 2017 UCI World Champion Logan Martin (AUS) into 2nd, with reigning UCI World Champion Justin Dowell (USA) in third.
