Weekly recap | 29 April - 5 May

A German athlete, riding for a German team, winning on German roads: Pascal Ackermann could not have found a better way to celebrate Labour Day on May 1. The Bora-hansgrohe rider interrupted Alexander Kristoff’s winning streak at Eschborn-Frankfurt, preventing him from taking a fifth consecutive win at the German UCI WorldTour event. Despite suffering from cramps, Norway’s Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) made it onto the third step of the podium after a hectic bunch sprint that saw another German, John Degenkolb (Trek Segafredo) finish second.
