Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)

WHAT IS A TUE?

Riders, like everyone else, may have illnesses or conditions which require particular medications or to undergo procedures. If a substance contained in your medication or the method used appear on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List, you must apply for a TUE.

In summary, a TUE is a special permission to use a prohibited substance or method for a legitimate medical condition.

WHICH RIDERS SHOULD APPLY TO THE ITA, HOW AND WHEN?

Since 1 January 2021, all requests for TUEs are managed by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the UCI.

Riders included in the UCI Registered Testing Pool (RTP) or Testing Pool (TP) as well as Riders not included in the UCI RTP nor TP but participating in an International Event shall apply for a TUE to the ITA, using exclusively the TUE application form available on ADAMS.

A rider who needs a TUE should apply as soon as the need arises, unless exceptional circumstances or true emergencies exist.

WHERE CAN I FIND DETAILED INFORMATION ON TUE?

Should you wish to apply for a TUE or should you require further information and/or documentation concerning TUEs, please consult the ITA’s dedicated page on TUEs or directly contact the ITA at [email protected].

Finally, please take note that the standards and process for granting TUEs are described under the UCI Regulations for TUE (UCI TUER) which can be accessed here.
