Alex Dowsett to tackle UCI Hour Record in Manchester

Great Britain’s Alex Dowsett has rescheduled his UCI Hour Record attempt, which will now take place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester, Great Britain, on 2 May, at 14.00 CET.    The 26-year-old British rider, member of the Spanish UCI WorldTeam Movistar, had initially scheduled his attempt for 27 February at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London. However, he was forced to postpone his plans after breaking his collarbone during training.     Three times British Time Trial Champion, between 2011 and 2013, Dowsett will try to better the record of 52.491km established by Australia’s Rohan Dennis at the Velodrome Suisse in Grenchen, Switzerland, on 8 February.    In his build-up to the UCI Hour Record, Dowsett made his return to racing by riding two Italian races, the GP Nobili and Milan-San Remo, as well as Ghent-Wevelgem (Belgium) and soon to be followed by a French stage race, Circuit de la Sarthe.          Dowsett’s attempt will be the fifth this year: Apart from the success of BMC’s Rohan Dennis, Jack Bobridge (Australia), Thomas Dekker (the Netherlands) and Gustav Larsson (Sweden) all fell short of breaking the record. Meanwhile, Great Britain's Dame Sarah Storey was unsuccessful in her attempt to beat the women’s UCI Hour Record. Amendments to the UCI Regulations introduced last year, allowing riders to use track pursuit bikes, have revived interest in cycling’s most iconic record. Tickets to watch Alex Dowsett’s attempt will be available via See Tickets by the end of the week.
