Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic linked to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the Union Cycliste Internationale (UC) regrets to announce that the 2020 Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships, which were to take place in Leogang (Austria) next 9 October, are cancelled.
This difficult decision was taken jointly by the UCI, the Organising Committee, and Velosolutions and its partner Red Bull. They decided that the cancellation of qualifying events in many parts of the world meant the majority of riders had been prevented from having the chance to reach the UCI World Championships. Consequently, the participation at these Worlds would not have been truly representative of the highest international level.
The riders who had qualified for the 2020 Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships are guaranteed the possibility of participating in the 2021 edition.
The UCI would like to clarify that the cancellation of the 2020 Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships in no way affects the staging of the 2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships presented by Mercedes-Benz, which remain scheduled from 5 to 11 October in Leogang.
The UCI shares the disappointment of the pump track community but considers that this was the fairest decision. It thanks the organisers and implicated stakeholders for their collaboration in this difficult situation and looks forward to seeing the athletes and all concerned parties for the 2021 edition of pump track’s UCI World Championships (venue and dates to be confirmed).
