Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic linked to the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) confirms that the UCI WorldTour and UCI Women’s WorldTour events that were to take place in China this year have been cancelled at the request of their organisers.
The competitions in question are the Gree-Tour of Guangxi (UCI WorldTour), which was to take place from 5 to 10 November, as well as the Tour of Chongming Island and the Tour of Guangxi, two UCI Women’s WorldTour events which should have been raced, respectively, on 23-25 October and 10 November.
The UCI is sorry that the 2020 UCI International Road Calendar will not include these races, which play an important role in the development of road cycling not only in China but more widely in Asia. Moreover, it wishes to thank the organisers concerned for their cooperation in this difficult situation and looks forward to the staging of their events in 2021.
The 2020 UCI WorldTour will therefore finish with the Vuelta Ciclista a España (20 October – 8 November), while the 2020 UCI Women’s WorldTour will draw to a close on 8 November with the Ceratizit Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta (Spain).
Covid-19 pandemic: keeping track of events on the UCI International Calendar that are postponed or cancelled
The UCI also announces that new dates have been set for the 2021 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, to avoid overlapping with the Tokyo Paralympic Games which have been postponed a year, (new dates: 24 August – 5 September 2021). Awarded to Cascais (Portugal), the UCI Worlds for para-cycling road were to be organised on 25-29 August 2021 but will now take place on 9-13 June the same year.
The UCI is pleased to have found the optimal solution with the event’s organisers and thanks them for their collaboration.
