Professional road cycling reform: steering committee established and Deloitte appointed as strategic adviser

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce the establishment of a steering committee tasked with leading the next phase of the reform of professional men's and women's road cycling. To support this work, the UCI has appointed Deloitte, the global professional services firm, as strategic adviser.

This new step builds on the 'Future of Road Cycling' consultation launched by the UCI in February 2026, the summary of which was published on 24 September. The many contributions received from across the cycling family revealed a broad consensus on the key issues facing the discipline, notably safety, financial equity between teams, the calendar, and commercial and media rights.

The steering committee brings together, alongside the UCI President, the Director General and the President of the Professional Cycling Council (PCC), the presidents of the representative associations of organisers (AIOCC), teams (AIGCP) and riders (CPA), the elected representatives of the UCI Athletes' Commission, and representatives from the biggest events and teams in professional men’s and women’s road cycling.

The steering committee held its first meeting on 6 October in Geneva, Switzerland. Two further meetings are planned before a progress update at the UCI Women's WorldTour and UCI WorldTour Seminar, which will be held on 9 and 10 December in Benidorm, Spain. The broad outlines of the reform will be presented there, with the first measures potentially being introduced as early as the 2029 season.

Experts from Deloitte's global sports practice, which has successfully supported strategic reform processes across several sports, will advise the UCI on the development of its vision and roadmap. They participated in an advisory capacity at the first steering committee meeting in Geneva and will support the committee's work in the coming weeks.

UCI President David Lappartient said: “The consultation showed that the different families of cycling share a common vision of the major challenges facing our sport. It is now up to us to turn this consensus into concrete proposals. The establishment of this steering committee, bringing together all stakeholders, and the expertise of Deloitte, give us the means to move forward methodically and in a spirit of ongoing dialogue.”
