Swiss Cycling announced this morning its decision to organise the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling World Championships in Zurich. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) awarded this event to the German-speaking region of Switzerland during the meeting of its Management Committee in Innsbruck (Austria) last September.
The UCI congratulates Zurich’s bid committee, and is highly confident of its ability to organise a high-quality UCI World Championships, particularly in terms of the appeal of its courses, participation of the public and TV production. Indeed, Zurich has a great deal of experience in the organisation of cycling events.
In the last 10 years, Switzerland has successfully organised several UCI World Championships:
Moreover, next year (2020) Switzerland will organise the UCI Road World Championships in Aigle and Martigny and the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Dübendorf.
The 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling World Championships will be the first to combine these two specialities, which represents another step forward for cycling.
The UCI and its National Federations can now envisage the next six editions of their Road World Championships, in line with the commitment of UCI President David Lappartient.
