The UCI commits to strengthening the governance of the UCI World Cycling Centre

During the meeting of the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC) Foundation Board on November 27, the Union Cycliste Internationale announced the creation of a working group charged with making propositions to the next UCI Management Committee and UCI WCC Foundation Board with a view to ensuring the wellbeing and respect of employees and trainees at its training and education centre. This working group will be made up of representatives of the UCI and of the UCI WCC Foundation Board and will come under the authority of the UCI President David Lappartient. One of the measures being envisaged is to set up a whistleblowing mechanism for the Centre’s employees and trainees.

This decision comes after the UCI’s announcementon November 5 of the departure of Frédéric Magné following the breach of trust between the International Federation and Mr Magné, Director General of the Centre from 2009 to 2019.

The UCI has also committed to exploring ways of strengthening the governance of the UCI WCC to bring it in line with the highest standards, already adopted and put in place by the Federation. This will include improving internal operating and decision-making processes which will all be analysed and formalised as part of the redefinition of relations between the Centre and its supervisory structure, the UCI. The reorganisation of the centre will be overseen by Vincent Jacquet who will take over the Direction of the Centre as part of his current role as Head of International Relations and Solidarity.

After four years as National Technical Director at the French Cycling Federation (Fédération Française de Cyclisme – FCC), and with extensive experience in the management of high-performance sports training centres – Regional Physical and Sporting Education Centre (Centre Régional d’Education Physique et Sportive – CREPS) in the Region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and of the National Skiing and Middle Mountain Centre (Centre National de Ski Nordique et de Moyenne Montagne) in Prémanon (Franche-Comté region) -, Vincent Jacquet joined the UCI in January 2019. The UCI WCC will benefit from his expertise in the domains of solidarity and cooperation.

The UCI would like to underline that the UCI WCC is a tool for development, training and solidarity as defined in the Agenda 2022 which sets out the Federation’s strategic directions. The UCI wishes to continue increasing the resources provided to the UCI WCC to develop cycling worldwide in line with the Centre’s missions since it opened. These directions were all unanimously approved by the Foundation Board.
