The UCI unveils the outline of the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships in Haute-Savoie (France)

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the local organising committee for the second edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships today unveiled the outline of the event, which will take place in the Haute-Savoie department of France from 24 August to 5 September 2027. The information was revealed during a press conference in Sallanches, France.

The dates of the different competitions have not yet been finalised, although those for Junior track should take place before the official date of the event.

The UCI World Championships for cycling esports, gravel, mountain bike enduro, pump track and Junior track will make their first appearance as part of the UCI Cycling World Championships, while two new specialities will have the first UCI World Championships in their history: indoor cycle speedway and bike polo.

The whole of the Haute-Savoie department will be part of the festivities, and the competitions will take place in breathtaking settings, with exceptionally diverse landscapes featuring iconic lakes and legendary peaks, such as the majestic Mont-Blanc, Europe's highest mountain (4,806 metres above sea level).

The circuit for the 2027 UCI Road World Championships road race has also been unveiled. The start and finish line will be in Sallanches, and the main difficulty of the 13.3 km circuit (with an elevation of 285m) will be the Côte de Domancy (2.5km with an average gradient of 9.4%, and a maximum gradient of 16%). Sallanches was the venue for the 1964 and 1980 editions of the UCI Road World Championships, and it was on the Côte de Domancy that French cyclist Bernard Hinault took off to win his only UCI Road World Championships title (road race) in the Men Elite category. Riders in all categories will follow the same circuit, with the only variation being the number of laps to be completed. This concept marks a return to tradition and should encourage a record number of spectators to attend the event.

UCI President David Lappartient said: “These combined UCI Cycling World Championships were part of my vision when I was elected UCI President in 2017. This vision became a reality in 2023 in Glasgow and across Scotland, and we are now building on what we created in Scotland, in an even wider range of cycling specialities. I am delighted that this edition will take place in Haute-Savoie, a recognised host region for UCI events in several disciplines. Cycling in all its splendour will be celebrated in the French department.”

The President of the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships Organising Committee and of the French Cycling Federation, Michel Callot, said: “This is an extraordinary opportunity for our French team to showcase itself in all the disciplines on the programme and thus to illustrate the success of French cycling, which is very eclectic. We hope that the spotlight on France throughout this major event will encourage many young people to take up competitive cycling.”

The President of the Departmental Council of Haute-Savoie, Martial Saddier, said: “Our ambition is to make these UCI World Championships a benchmark for inclusion, parity and innovation, while offering spectators an unforgettable experience. As elected representatives of the Department of Haute-Savoie, we are committed to making the event a popular festival that is accessible to all, exemplary, and in keeping with our tradition of hospitality, recognised throughout the tourism industry.”
