The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce the winners of the second UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards. These awards were launched in 2024 to recognise outstanding initiatives implemented by members of the cycling family (including professional riders, teams, National Federations, event organisers and UCI Bike Cities and Regions) that have positive social and environmental impact, promote active mobility and encourage everyday cycling.
The four award winners are the following:
UCI Cycling for All Award recognising a cycling initiative with significant social impact:
British Cycling – Limitless: Limitless is British Cycling’s inclusive cycling programme, launched in 2023, which provides cycling opportunities for people with impairments, regardless of age, impairment and ability. Its ambition is to create a nationwide network of inclusive opportunities, where everyone can feel supported, welcomed and included in cycling. British Cycling has engaged 4200 people with the Limitless programme in two years, and the overall target across four years is 5000 people. In addition, 1252 Limitless sessions have been delivered so far, with the support of 612 volunteers. There are currently 234 Limitless Champion Clubs and 20 Limitless Focus Clubs – which provide specific additional opportunities for people with impairments - operating across the country. Limitless clubs receive financial support for essential equipment, training and facilities, enabling them to deliver inclusive opportunities which showcase cycling is truly for all.
UCI Climate Action Award recognising a cycling initiative with positive environmental impact:
Flanders Classics - Sustainability plan and assessment of the 2024 UEC Road European Championships: The 2024 UEC Road European Championships took place from 11 to 15 September in Limburg (Belgium). To make the event as sustainable as possible, a unique partnership was created between various regional and local actors to develop a robust sustainability plan around 10 themes and with over 100 action points, which included: a 100% electrical fleet, generators powered entirely by biofuel, 105 eco-teams, and reusable catering supplies. The post-event sustainability assessment reports produced through a partnership with expert organisation “A Greener Future” supported the event’s aim to create a sustainability framework and detailed recommendations for future sporting events, in order to promote positive change and set an inspiring example for the sports community and its fans.
UCI Bike City Award recognising the most innovative project submitted by UCI Bike Cities and Regions:
Wollongong, Australia – Wollongong Bike City Community Partners Programme: The Bike City Community Partners Programme was established to share the benefits of being a UCI Bike City with the community. It commenced by making a significant contribution to developing cycling as a major community activity for residents and attracting visiting cyclists. Its effectiveness has been proven over the last two years with new events, activities, shared projects and major charities being supported by cycling. Twenty-five organisations have already signed Memoranda of Understanding with Destination Wollongong to participate in the programme, and attend quarterly roundtable meetings. The partnership has enabled the creation of new collaborative cycling initiatives including The Disability Trust/MS Gong Ride All-abilities ride section and the inclusion of the Ride for Rotary event - raising money for local homeless and disadvantaged youth – in the Ride Wollongong Festival of Cycling.
UCI Rainbow Award, a special award selected by the jury out of all submissions:
Abu Dhabi Sports Council – MyWhoosh Ramadan Cycling Championship: The MyWhoosh Ramadan Cycling Championship is a digital-first cycling initiative designed to bring together thousands of riders during the holy month of Ramadan through an inclusive, accessible, and community-focused competitive platform. Organised by MyWhoosh, in alignment with Abu Dhabi’s UCI Bike City vision, the championship aims to redefine how cycling can be experienced—virtually and physically—while promoting healthy habits, social connection, and cultural relevance. The 2023 and 2024 editions featured over 18,000 participants from more than 80 countries, with a long-term objective to create a sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rooted cycling movement that continues to engage riders beyond the month of Ramadan and across different parts of the world, especially in regions where cycling participation is still emerging.
The winners of the second UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards were announced at the 2025 UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum, held jointly with the Copenhagen Cycling Summit, which is currently taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Held on 20 and 21 June, the seventh edition of the Forum brings together cycling leaders, advocates, mobility experts, National Federations, industry representatives and policy makers to exchange on the future of active mobility.
At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, UCI Cycling for All & Sustainable Cycling Commission President and Jury President Tony Mitchell said: “We are thrilled to celebrate the second edition of the UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards by recognising four projects which truly impressed the jury with their vision, tangible results and impact with regard to making cycling more accessible, sustainable and inclusive. We would like to congratulate all applicants for their ambitious projects, which collectively ensure that the sport can have a greater impact on the everyday use of the bicycle by populations around the world.”
