Women’s first division and men’s first and second division road teams wishing to be registered for the 2020 season are required to submit a registration file to the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The UCI, in association with external financial auditor EY, then assesses whether the teams are in compliance with the UCI Regulations.In accordance with its Regulations, the UCI is today publishing the teams that have submitted a registration file containing all the required documentation as per articles 2.13.087, 2.15.069bis and 2.16.014bis, by the deadline of 1 October.There are 45 candidate teams: 20 men’s teams bidding for first division UCI WorldTeam status, 17 men’s teams applying as second division UCI ProTeam, and 8 women's teams having applied for a UCI Women's WorldTeam status. The latter category is the 1st division of UCI women's teams, in line with the new organisation of women's road professional cycling introduced in 2020.
Decisions on the allocation or renewal of UCI WorldTour licenses are the exclusive responsibility of the License Commission (art. 2.13.031, 2.15.201) and shall be announced on 19 December at the latest.
