LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games: iconic start and finish venues for road cycling events

Olympic road events to finish at Griffith Observatory

The start and finish venues for all road cycling events at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Los Angeles 2028 have been confirmed, with the Olympic events finishing at the famous Griffith Observatory.

Both the road races and individual time trials at the Olympic Games will finish at Griffith Observatory in the Griffith Park Zone of the American city. Situated 346 metres above sea level on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood, the observatory is a popular tourist attraction with a commanding view of the Los Angeles Basin. Its elevated position indicates that the athletes will have an uphill finish in their bid for the individual time trial and road race Olympic titles.

On 19 July, the Olympic time trials will start at the LA Zoo, also in the Griffith Park Zone, while the road races will start at Venice Beach Boardwalk, as already announced. The road races are scheduled for 22-23 July.

The Paralympic road events (road race, time trial and mixed team relay) will start and finish at the LA Zoo between 22 and 26 August. Situated about 4km northeast of Griffith Observatory the zoo covers some 133 acres within Griffith Park.

The remaining full course details for all road cycling events at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be revealed later this year.

As a reminder, LA28 venue announcements were made in June 2024 concerning BMX Racing (Valley Complex 4) and BMX Freestyle (Valley Complex 1) in the Valley Zone, in July 2024 concerning track cycling (Carson Velodrome) in the Carson Zone, and in August 2025 concerning mountain bike (Industry Hills MTB Course) in the City of Industry Zone.
