The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), in accordance with the decision taken by its Management Committee at its meeting on 29 and 30 January, is launching a wide-ranging consultation with stakeholders in men's and women's professional road cycling. The aim is to develop the sector's organisational model in order to strengthen its long-term appeal.
A letter has been sent by the UCI to the main stakeholders: the Association Internationale des Organisateurs de Courses Cyclistes (AIOCC), the International Association of Professional Cycling Teams (Association Internationale des Groupes Cyclistes Professionnels - AIGCP) and Cyclistes Professionnels Associés (CPA). The UCI also invites all concerned parties – riders, organisers, representatives and owners of UCI teams, as well as representatives of National Federations – to contribute individually to this discussion.
Stakeholders are invited to submit their views and proposals on key topics - including the economic model, the calendar and participation rules, fan engagement, safety and the credibility of sporting results - by 30 April 2026.
This UCI initiative is part of a broader reflection on the evolution of cycling. Although cycling is now hugely popular across five continents, its media coverage and the revenues generated for its stakeholders do not yet fully reflect its potential. There is considerable room for improvement, provided that a concerted, balanced approach is developed that is adapted to future challenges, while preserving the historical strengths of the discipline.
Several reforms implemented in recent years have helped to promote the development of road cycling (internationalisation, new events, the growth of women's cycling, etc.). The aim now is to continue this positive momentum collectively, in a spirit of dialogue and shared responsibility, under the auspices of the UCI.
At the end of the consultation phase, the UCI will engage in in-depth discussions with the various stakeholders and partners concerned, with a view to developing a stronger, more attractive and sustainable model for men's and women's professional road cycling.
UCI President David Lappartient said: "Road cycling is an extraordinary sport that has thrilled crowds around the world for well over a century. In a context where the role of cycling in society is increasingly recognised, our sport still has considerable potential for development. The consultation launched today aims to bring together stakeholders of road cycling to reflect jointly on its evolution. It is only together, under the auspices of the UCI, that we will take our sport to the next level: for greater stability, more growth and improved overall appeal."
